Where does the name C&A come from?

The letters C&A are the initials of the brothers Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer. They founded the company that is still named after them in 1841 in Sneek in the Netherlands.

What does C&A sell?

Good quality fashion at affordable prices for the entire family. There is something for everyone at C&A, old or young, big or small, male or female, with 10,000 different products in 190 groups of goods to cater for every need. And we have also thought of those looking for larger sizes by offering them superb fashion in our XL Shops.

How big is C&A?

Pretty big. C&A is one of the biggest fashion retailers in Europe with about 36,000 employees, more than 1,500 stores and around 2,000,000 visitors every day. Our stores can be found in the following 20 European countries: Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Russia, Italy, Turkey, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia. We also operate as separate companies in Brazil, Mexico and China.

Are all products available in every store?

You will find the core range in every store. Naturally, there are differences between large and small stores in that the larger stores will have a greater variety. In addition, we take account of our customers’ national and local preferences when compiling the range we offer.

What does the future hold in store for C&A?

We are continuously striving to improve our quality and to create noticeable advantages for you in all areas. In addition, we are constantly trying out new ideas. Following trials in the Netherlands, for example, we have opened the C&A online shop in Germany and this will also be launched in other countries.  Then there is our commitment to organic cotton, an area we plan to expand. There are sure to be still more things in the future. One thing is absolutely certain: we’ll be keeping you informed about what’s going on.

What is C&A’s philosophy with regard to quality?

Our aim is to offer you the best fashion at affordable prices. In all the countries in which we are present, we rank amongst the leading companies with our wide range of clothing and accessories.  Our quality awareness is reflected throughout the entire manufacturing process, from the raw materials through to the final product. And should you ever be less than 100% satisfied with an article purchased from us, we will replace it: quickly and without quibble – no “ifs” and “buts”!

What is C&A’s position regarding social manufacturing conditions?

C&A places great demands on itself, its suppliers and their suppliers in terms of working, manufacturing and environmental conditions. It goes without saying that we are totally opposed to child labour and all other forms of exploitation of people and the environment; this includes our suppliers and all other companies involved with us. For this reason, we have created a Code of Conduct. Unannounced on-site inspections by SOCAM, an independent organisation, enforce this Code of Conduct worldwide. In the event of a supplier violating this code of conduct, irrespective of whether during manufacture of goods for C&A or for other customers, we immediately impose contractual penalties.
